Corpus Christi School, is preparing for their seventh annual Race for Education in Garden Park on Oct. 13, 2017. The race is historically the school’s largest fundraiser, it offers students a chance to practice physical fitness with the generous support of donors, family and friends.

“This fundraiser is critical for sustaining our 101-year tradition of Catholic education and keeps tuition costs affordable to our students,” said Advancement Director Miranda Shaner.

“We have already raised $14,100 through corporate sponsorship prior to sending the friends and family mailing that is going out in the mail now. Our most generous sponsor, Fitzsimmons Law Firm PLLC, is leading the charge again, as well as 18 other new and returning sponsors. I want to thank all of our sponsors who have donated so far this year to Catholic education,” said Shaner.

On race day, all the students from preschool through eighth grade walk and run for one hour around Garden Park (located just across Warwood Ave. from the school) at designated times. They are encouraged to achieve personal goals that they set for themselves. Obstacle courses and team activities also are part of the day.

“In addition to being a fundraising event, the Race for Education is a valuable tool for teaching our students about wellness, fitness and goals. Students are led by the physical education teacher Mrs. Kathy Shook in activities each week prior to race day to prepare,” said Shaner.

Students work together to earn prizes for themselves and the entire student body. It is a hands-on program.

“My children love the Race for Education and look forward to the chance to run, walk and compete in beautiful Garden Park every October. It’s a great way to encourage outdoor fitness and support the school at the same time,” said race committee member Marla Blake, whose children are in grades kindergarten, fourth and fifth.

“This year we need your help to meet our goal of $45,000! Funds raised from the Race for Education support the CCS general fund which operates our school and pays for everything from maintenance to salaries.

“Please support the Race for Education this year to continue to provide a Corpus Christi School education to current and future students. Thank you to all who have donated in past years to help make this event a success,” she said.
