WHEELING — Corpus Christi School students don’t just sit in classrooms. They get up and run the Race for Education.
The school recently held its sixth annual Race for Education in Garden Park. Sponsored by the Fitzsimmons Law Firm PLLC, funds raised by the students help sustain the quality, faith-based education the school provides and keep tuition costs affordable to students.
“Generous support like this is critical for sustaining our tradition of high quality, Catholic education and we would like to say thank you to all of our sponsors and donors who helped us this year. Because of you we have raised $40,300!” said Advancement Director Miranda Shaner.
The race was held on Oct. 14 and the weather cooperated with sunshine and changing fall colors. All Corpus Christi students, grades pre-K through 8, walked, ran and participated in Olympic-style activities around the park at designated times.
“In addition to being a fundraising event, the Race for Education is a valuable teaching tool for our students. It teaches students about health, fitness and goals. Students are led by our physical education teacher in activities each week prior to race day to prepare.
They work together and cooperate to win prizes for their class and the entire student body. The students also kept track of their steps by using pedometers during the day. It is a hands-on program that demonstrates healthy lifestyles, develops skills, and incorporates team fundraising for a common goal,” said Principal Dick Taylor. “We are grateful to our students, families and friends for joining us in this effort.”
