Corpus Christi School (CCS) is focused on teaching students the value of helping others through a variety of service projects during the school year. As part of this effort, CCS students recently led a collection of items to donate to the Northern Panhandle Chapter of the Gabriel Project of West Virginia, Inc. All grade levels participated in the collection of over 100 items, which included diapers, strollers, carriers, toys, clothes, wipes, and more.

Faith Hicks, the Gabriel Project Northern Chapter Coordinator, was overjoyed with the number and quality of items collected by the CCS students. “We have been blessed with the CCS relationship. We are grateful to Principal Dick Taylor, CCS teachers, and students for their donation to the Gabriel Project and our babies,”  she said. The mission of the Gabriel Project of West Virginia is to protect and honor life by providing immediate, practical and compassionate assistance to needy pregnant women and to families with infants and children two years of age and younger, according to their website.

All students participated in the project but First Grade students led the collection. “My favorite part was when Mr. Taylor and the Gabriel Project people saw all the stuff we collected,” said First Grader, Addie Wall. “Other people don’t really have that much stuff and we help them out and that is what is important,” she added. Fellow First Grader, Kayley Stoehr said, “Collecting items for the Gabriel Project feels like we love babies we don’t even know.” She also said, “We are helping other people and it feels really good.”

Corpus Christi School is proud to incorporate service projects into the curriculum. It is part of the holistic educational approach and the spiritual development of our students.
